Dr. Breggin’s Empathic Therapy training film will help you to bring out the best in yourself so that you can bring out the best in others. With his genuine and profoundly engaging style of psychotherapy, Dr. Breggin shows how to relate to patients and clients in a manner that engenders trust, mutual understanding, and the opportunity for recovery and growth.

Rather than offering a new school of psychotherapy, Dr. Breggin’s film aims to enhance your own style of psychotherapy. Instead of “burn out,” look forward to every session and to improving your experience throughout your career.

Short Trailer for the Empathic Therapy Training film

The film demonstrates that empathic therapies are the best approach to the full spectrum of potential patients, including psychotic, suicidal and violent inpiduals. The emphasis on empathy can also be applied to your personal relationships.

The training film DVD consists of five parts: An introduction to Empathic Therapy by Dr. Breggin, three one-hour therapy demonstrations, and a commentary afterward by experienced therapists. In a unique feature, other therapists critique each of Dr. Breggin’s demonstrations, and interact with Dr. Breggin and the subjects, adding multiple perspectives to the training.

The premier of the film took place on April 9, 2011 at the first international Empathic Therapy Conference (www.empathictherapy.org) where professionals and non-professionals from around the world felt informed and inspired by it.

More about this Training Film:

Dr. Breggin’s training film shows you how to:

  • Use your personal empathic skills as a therapist
  • Genuinely engage with all your clients
  • Conduct medication-free therapy with distressed people
  • Calmly and effectively handle severe emotional crises
  • Love being a therapist while performing at your best

The three subjects include a young woman in college who is trying to recover from abusive relationships with boyfriends; an extremely depressed woman with multiple hospitalizations who hears voices and struggles with her impulses to kill herself and to murder her ex-husband; and an adult man who is recovering from mania and hospitalization, followed by many years of mind-blunting lithium treatment.
